Ph EurDEFINITION
Mixture consisting of the ethyl esters of fatty acids, mainly oleic (cis-9-octadecenoic) acid. A suitable antioxidant may be added.CHARACTERS
Appearance: Clear, pale yellow or colourless liquid.
Solubility: Practically insoluble in water, miscible with ethanol (96 per cent), with methylene chloride and with light petroleum (40-60 °C).IDENTIFICATION
A. Relative density (see Tests).
B. Saponification value (see Tests).

Relative density: 0.866 to 0.874.
Acid value: Maximum 0.5, determined on 10.0 g.
Iodine value: 75 to 90.
Peroxide value: Maximum 10.0.
Saponification value: 177 to 188, determined on 2.0 g.
Oleic acid: Minimum 60.0 per cent in the fatty acid fraction of the substance to be examined.
Water: Maximum 1.0 per cent, determined on 1.00 g.
Total ash: Maximum 0.1 per cent, determined on 2.0 g.

Viscosity: not less than 5.15 centipoises.
Acid value: not more than 0.5.
Iodine value: between 75 and 85.
Saponification value: between 177 and 188.
