Edetate Disodium USP
C10H14N2Na2O8·2H2O 372.24
Glycine, N,N′-1,2-ethanediylbis[N-(carboxymethyl)-, disodium salt, dihydrate.
Disodium (ethylenedinitrilo)tetraacetate dihydrate [6381-92-6].
Anhydrous 336.21 [139-33-3].Edetate Disodium contains not less than 99.0 percent and not more than 101.0 percent of C10H14N2Na2O8, calculated on the dried basis.
Identification:
A: Infrared Absorption 197K : un-dried.
B: To 5 mL of water in a test tube add 2 drops of ammonium thiocyanate TS and 2 drops of ferric chloride TS, and mix. To the deep red solution add about 50 mg of Edetate Disodium, and mix: the red color is discharged, leaving a yellowish solution.
C: It responds to the flame test for Sodium.
pH: between 4.0 and 6.0, in a solution (1 in 20).
Loss on drying: Dry it at 150 for 6 hours: it loses not less than 8.7% and not more than 11.4% of its weight.
Calcium: To a solution (1 in 20) add 2 drops of methyl red TS, and neutralize with 6 N ammonium hydroxide. Add 3 N hydrochloric acid drop-wise until the solution is just acid, and then add 1 mL of ammonium oxalate TS: no precipitate is formed.
Heavy metals: 0.005%.
Limit of nitrilotriacetic acid: not more than 0.1% of nitrilotriacetic acid is found.
